Monastery in Ląd - the Old Cistercian Abbey

The village is located 9 km south of Slupca in the heart of Nadwarciański Landscape Park. There is the only one complex of a former Cistercian abbey in this part of Wielkopolska, declared as the Historic Monument (that status is conferred by the President of Poland), built at turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, now one of the most impressive baroque monastery complex in the region. Monastery with a patio surrounded by corridors and galleries, their northern wing connects to the church, the layout is typical of the Cistercian abbeys. The most valuable relic of the monastery is the Oratory of St. James the Apostle (the second half of XIV), its frescoes are among the most valuable monuments of medieval art in Poland. The church and monastery are the residence of the Salesian Congregation, moreover Higher Seminary of Salesian Society works here.
