Sanctuary of Holy Virgin Mary in Licheń Stary

12 km northeast of Konin is the largest temple in Poland. Center of Mary cult, which developed in the second half of the nineteenth century, now is  one of the most visited pilgrimage sites in Poland (estimated annually come here from 1.5 to 2 milion pilgrims). Marian Sanctuary  often called the "Częstochowa of the North", like a magnet attracts pilgrims who want to see with their own eyes the famous of favor, miraculous image of Our Lady of Licheń-Sorrowful Queen of Poland. The image is a copy of the image of Our Lady of Rokitno. It was transferred from the forest chapel to the neo-Gothic church of St. Dorothy and then in 2006 to Basilica. Sanctuary impresses above all its huge dimensions: 120 m long, 77 m wide, the height of the tower is 141.5 m. On the other hand in the bell tower, next to the Basilica hangs Poland's largest bell - "Mary Mother of God" with a weight of 14.7 tons. Since July of 2010 on the second and third floor of the basilica operates Museum of Joseph Jarzębowski priest MIC transferred from Fowley Cort in the UK.
